Earwigs or “Pincher Bugs”, as they are often called, are some of the most misunderstood insects in the US.  Earwigs belong to the incest order Dermaptera, where there are around 2,000 different species. These creatures are found on several different continents, and there are species that have adapted to become parasitic and some that give off a foul defensive odor. In Northern America Earwigs. In Northern America, Earwigs have a set of pincers on their abdomen, and a pair of wings, which are rarely used for flight. While it is commonly believed that Earwigs crawl inside human ears and lay eggs, this is fortunately just a myth. Although these creatures may not lay eggs inside of peoples ears, they can still be quite a nuisance to humans.
 
Earwigs can cause a great deal of damage to crops and other plant life. Also, these pests are believed to give off an attracting pheromone to other Earwigs, which cause many of them to gather together. This can become a big problem if they are attracting each other into your home, crops, or garden. Earwigs are nocturnal, spending daytime in cool and moist areas, while scavenging for food during the night. Earwigs can commonly be found inside homes in damp and dark locations such as kitchens, bathrooms, gutters, and many others. These creatures oftentimes lay up to 50 eggs at a time, so controlling them and finding their hiding spots is very important before the problem becomes severe.
